The Universal Zulu Nation is a grass roots organization formed in November 1973 by Afrika Bambaataa - created to bring together communities from all corners and backgrounds with Music being the Universal vehicle in which to promote this awareness of Peace, Unity, Love and Having Fun. A year later in November 1974 Hip Hop was forming as a celebration of life, gradually developing its four original elements - DJing, Breakin , MCing, and Graffiti writing – to form a cultural movement.

Thirty two years later the foundations laid down by Hip Hop’s forefathers have exploded in many directions across all corners of the globe, and to recognize how far we’ve come the month of November has been declared HIP HOP HISTORY MONTH.

To celebrate 32 years of Hip Hop culture and to spread the message that the month of November IS declared “International Hip Hop History Month” - the 2006 Zulu Nation Supa Jam - taking place over four days and traveling through Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne - pays homage to the roots of Hip Hop culture and celebrates the true essence and excitement of what Hip Hop was meant to be.

To ignite the fires for Australia’s first national Zulu Nation Supa Jam - Hip Hop culture anniversary celebration, live and direct from the birth place of Hip Hop, is LORD FINESSE (D.I.T.C), ROC RAIDA (X-Ecutioners/D.I.T.C), and Q-UNIQUE (The Arsonists/Rock Steady Crew), alongside an of array of our freshest homegrown MC’s, DJ’s, Hip Hop Crews, Bboys and Bgirls - guarantees this a show not to be missed by any true supporter of Hip Hop culture.

LORD FINESSE, the Funky man in the flesh - one of the founding members of the legendary Diggin’ in the Crates crew, and the person responsible for discovering Harlem’s own legendary BigL. As a producer, Lord Finesse has worked with some of Hip Hop’s greats, such as Notorious BIG, Big L, Dr Dre, Fat Joe, and Capone and Noreaga to name a few.

Also known as the “Ace of Trades” for his mastery as a Lyricist, multi-platinum producer and a turntable technician, Lord Finesse will be performing a live MC set, spitting legendary hits off his album’s; “The Funky Technician”, The Return of the Funkyman, “The Awakening”, and “From the crates to the Files”.

ROC RAIDA gained prominence in the late 1980’s as part of the champion turntablist crew “the X-Ecutioners”, who gained their reputation by utilizing the techniques of beat-juggling; the manual alteration between individual kick and snare sounds to create original drum patterns in real time. In 1995 Raida was crowned the DMC World Champion, and last year on a panel at the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame in Cleveland, Raida was appointed “Grandmaster” by some of Hip Hop’s founding fathers, such as Kool Herc, Grand Wizard Theodore and scratch evolutionist DST. Roc Raida also a member of the D.I.T.C crew will be gracing the decks for a solo set as well as DJing for Lord Finesse.

Q-UNIQUE brings the grime and filth from the streets with the presence of fine art. The Brooklyn born, Bronx raised member of the legendary Rock Steady Crew/Zulu Nation, and the front man and key producer for world renowned group, the Arsonists, has been proclaimed by many as their savior through personal and rough times. As a member of the Arsonist’s Q-Unique found international success in the early to mid nineties with their albums “As the World Burns”, and “Date of Birth”. Q-Unique’s solo career allowed him to expose the demons of his past and his triumph over them, with the release of Q’s highly anticipated album “Vengeance Is Mine”, resulting in another Q-Unique masterpiece. As a producer he has worked with the likes of Raekwon, Ill Bill, and for the La Coka Nostra project featuring House of Pain. He is currently working with Korn member Feildy on Q’s new album, which is yet to be released.

Tickets on sale: Friday 8th October through Ticketek, Venue*Tix, and the usual outlets.

The 2006 “ZULU NATION SUPA JAM” is presented by Zulu Nation and Rebel Music Productions, in partnership with Cultural Infusion and marketing/PR managed by Heavyweight.
